Heat Vision reports that John D. Payne and Patrick McKay are set to help write "Star Trek 3"
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci who wrote J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" '09 together and "Star Trek Into Darkness" with Damon Lindelof were said to be in talks to pen the sequel after "Thor" and "X-Men: First Class" writers and "Fringe" producers Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz were eyed but opted not to do it.
Payne and McKay penned the well-regard script "Goliath" and already have a working relationship with Abrams having adapted the graphic novel by Paul Guinan and his wife Anina Bennett called Boilerplate for him
Now, Kurtzman is leaving Trek but Orci stays on.
Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and John Cho are all expected to return to the Final Frontier in their respective roles as Kirk Spock Uhura Dr. McCoy Scotty Chekov and Sulu.
"Star Wars: Episode VII" director J.J. Abrams directed the last two films will only produce the third along with his producing partner Bryan Burke and David Ellison.
There were rumors that "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" director Rupert Wyatt would take over the job of director. G.I. Joe: Retaliation" director Jon M. Chu was also in the mix to call action but Joe Cornish ("Attack the Block") is said to be the current favorite--there's nothing official yet.
Paramount is targeting a 2016 release for the film to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the "Star Trek" franchise.
