Heat Vision reports that Disney picked up award-winning commercials director Robert Rugan's pitch for a live-action big screen adaptation of the classic cartoon chipmunk duo "Chip 'n' Dale".
First appearing in a 1943 animated short and in the 1950s, the pair saw a reboot in the late 1980s with the cartoon series "Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers" as the pair ran a detective agency that helped animal clients.
This new "Rescue Rangers"-inspired adventure will be a live-action/CG hybrid described as an "origin story of sorts".
David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are producing the pic.
