Sean Penn is in talks to star as famed literary editor Maxwell Perkins for the long-gestating drama "Genius" says The Hollywood Reporter.
The story follows the fedora-wearing eccentric editor-in-chief at a New York publishing house and his relationship with a young Thomas Wolfe.
Other literary giants figure into the story, including authors F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway whose works Perkins helped oversee.
Producer Bill Pohlad will direct, his first time helming a narrative film since 1990's "Old Explorers".
John Logan adapted the script and will produce.
The pic has been in the pipeline for a long time, Lawrence Kasdan had been attached to direct at one point
