China gets Warner Bros. flicks on VOD this summer

The Hollywood Reporter relays that VOD will bring select films from Warner Bros., including the films in the Harry Potter franchise, to those subscribed to the pay TV part of CCTV in China.

The number of subscribers is three million; that just goes to show how threatening VOD could be to theaters in the near future.

However, two questions arise from this happening: will there be payment, and is it even permitted by Chinese law? After all, the media there is heavily restricted and controlled by the government, so it’s a legitimate concern.
