Meunier Pimp's Out For "Equalizer"
David Meunier will star opposite Denzel Washington in Antoine Fuqua's big screen reboot of the 80's TV series "The Equalizer" says Deadline.
Edward Woodward starred in the 85-89 series about Robert McCall, a former operative of a covert intelligence organisation who seeks redemption for his dark past via offering his services to those being persecuted and in need of help. McCall brings justice to various baddies, killers, drug dealers, rapists on the streets of New York City. He also performed assignments for the head of his former organisation and dealt with his estranged son.
In the movie version, Washington's McCall is living a quiet life while working at a Home Depot, when one of his acts of kindness toward Teri a prostitute (Chloe Moretz) gets him snared with the Russian mob. The role for Moretz was originally written for a twentysomething. However, Moretz seemjngly left Washington and studio execs very impressed during a chemistry reading with Denzel. As a result, the prostitute character is being redrawn with her in mind. Now, it's expected to be closer to something like Jodie Foster's star turn in "Taxi Driver".
Fuqua took the big chair after Rise of the Planet of the Apes helmer Rupert Wyatt left due to scheduling issues. Wyatt came on to the pic after "Drive" director Nicolas Winding Refn left the pic after the deal between Sony Pictures and Refn fell apart at the last minute back in January. Fuqua's next pic is supposed to be the boxing film "Southpaw" which is to begin production at the end of the Summer with casting talk underway.
Budgeted at a lean $50 million, the project is being seen as a potential franchise launcher. Winding Refn beat out the likes of Pierre Morel ("Taken"), Gavin O'Connor ("Warrior") and Gareth Evans ("The Raid") for the gig.
The film was scripted by Richard Wenk, whose credits include the actioners 16 Blocks, with Bruce Willis, and the recent Mechanic remake starring Jason Statham and Ben Foster, and The Expendables 2.
Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, Alex Siskin, Mace Neufeld, Tony Eldridge, Michael Sloan (the show’s original co-creator), and Washington are gonna produce

Boyd Takes "Gun", Has "Accidents"
The Wrap reports that Boyd Holbrook has landed a roles in the troubled western Jane Got A Gun and the indie drama "Little Accidents".
Gun centers on a woman (Natalie Portman) who must defend her farm when her outlaw husband (Noah Emmerich) returns home after a gunfight at death's door. With his gang--led by John Bishop (Ewan McGregor takes over for Bradley Cooper) coming to kill them, she seeks the help of an ex-lover (Joel Edgerton) to defend themselves. Rodrigo Santoro will play a character named Fitchum.Holbrook will play McGregor's younger brother.
This film has had a wild ride that began when original director Lynne Ramsay quit over a dispute with producer Scott Steindorff who said that incident was the result of a last minute attempt by Ramsay's lawyer to renegotiate terms. Steindorff was quick to call Ramsay's decision not to show up for the first day of production “insane.” Less then 24 hours later Warrior helmer Gavin O'Connor was brought on as her replacement.
Actor Jude Law then left the production because, he signed on to work with Ramsay, and not with O'Connor. Law ironically came on to the picture as the result of an earlier casting shift that happened when Michael Fassbender dropped out after having a reported falling-out with Ramsey.
Cooper left. But thankfully the this latest change hasn't affected the shoot because right now it's in a planned shut-down phase. It's something they built in when O'Connor took over – he couldn't take on the project cold so even as they began shooting immediately, they restructured the schedule, putting in this time frame which would allow them to breath and catch up. Cooper's part was always scheduled to shoot during the latter half of production
Brian Duffield wrote the script which forced a bidding war at the Cannes Film Festival and also made last year's annual Black List of best unproduced screenplays.
Portman, Steindorff, Terry Dougas and Chris Coen are producing the film.
Holbrook will then star opposite Elizabeth Banks in writer/director Sara Colangelo's "Accidents" feature adaptation of her 2010 short, Holbrook playing the lone survivor of a tragic mining accident that kills a dozen men in a small mining town.
Banks will play a woman whose son goes missing as a result of the accident and seeks comfort and companionship from Holbrook's character.

Bond Eyes Cruz For Leading Lady In #24
The Daily Mail claims that Oscar winner Penelope Cruz is up for the
female lead in "Bond 24".
If a deal's made then Cruz would be the oldest Bond girl yet (she turns 40 next year), succeeding Honor Blackman who was 39 when she portrayed Pussy Galore in 1962.s Goldfinger.
The source claims: "The producers have tried to get Penelope before, but she has never been available because of other commitments. The discussions have been going on for some time and they are working out the contract details now."
Cruz is an interesting choice, since "Skyfall" had her husband Javier Bardem star as the villain,
Sam Mendes is likely to return to the big chair to call action since the James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are willing to wait for the helmer to complete work on his UK and Broadway release of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Musical before starting the next pic
John Logan is back to write the next one.

Emmy-winning actor Richard Schiff will play Dr. Hamilton. Cooper Timberline and Dylan Sprayberry both play young Clark Kent at various ages in the film. Jadin Gould is a young Lana Lang.
Bradley Cooper was said to be in talks to make a cameo appearance as Lex Luthor as a set-up for sequels. But that's not been confirmed. The folks at AICN claimed that Mackenzie Gray who played a Luthor clone during the final season of ‘Smallville’ will play "an ambitious, ego driven and cold version of Luthor." Benicio Del Toro Enlists In "Guardians Of The Galaxy"
Benicio Del Toro has joined James Gunn's Marvel superhero movie "Guardians Of The Galaxy" says Variety. The character Del Toro will play has not been revealed, but his deal is
said to span multiple films.
The Guardians of the Galaxy comic book follows a US pilot who ends up in space during a universal conflict, then is forced to go on the run with a band of futuristic alien ex-cons.
Chris Pratt will play Peter Quill/Star-Lord-The character is an interplanetary policeman and the Guardians leader who is born of a human mother and alien father.
WWE superstar Dave Bautista plays Drax the Destroyer who born as the human Arthur Douglas, whose family was attacked and murdered by the villainous Thanos (seen in the credt post-script of The Avengers). Arthur's spirit was then placed into a powerful new body by Kronos, which resulted in Drax the Destroyer's creation. The superhero's powers include incredible strength and the ability to emit energy blasts from his hands.
Zoe Saldana is Gamora a "green-skinned humanoid who is the last of a species that was exterminated by a race known as the Badoon" who also "happens to be a skilled assassin."
"The Walking Dead" fave Michael Rooker plays Yondu Udonta who first appeared in a 1969. He hails from the Zatoan tribe on Centauri IV, the first planet to be colonized outside of the Sun's solar system in the 29th Century. Yondu does not possess any super-human abilities, but he is a skilled hunter with a bow and arrow, and has a mystical "sixth sense" that gives him limited empathic abilities with other life forms. He is one of the founding members of the group.
The lovely Ophelia Lovibond plays "The Collector" who "gathers artefact's and beings in the hopes of saving them from a foretold galactic annihilation."
John C. Reilly has been offered the role of Rhomann Dey in the film who is said to be "Agent Coulson of the 'Guardians' movies," a human agent who serves as a go-between with S.H.I.E.L.D. This is quite different from the comic character, described as an alien centurion in the Nova Corps. There's were reports that the studio was interested in either Hugh Laurie, Alan Rickman or Ken Watanabe to play the role of a colleague of the Dey's.
Glenn Close is "playing a leadership role in Nova Corp, the intergalactic space patrol. ... Close’s role would be the closest thing to the one that Samuel L. Jackson plays in Avengers movie."
Lee Pace and former Doctor Who star Karen Gillan will play the big bads who are as yet unknown
Screenwriter Chris McCoy was hired to rewrite the Nicole Perlman’s original script.
Production starts late June in London The film arrives August 1, 2014.

Spidey 2: The Return Of [SPOILER] In Photos
Someone has come back from the dead in director Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2...
SPOILER AHEAD
ComicBookMovie.com posted some spy pics from the sequel's set that mark the return of Denis Leary as Gwen's Dad Captain Stacy decked out in his blood soaked police uniform. You will recall he died battling the Lizard (Rhys Ifans) during the climax of The Amazing Spider-Man
The context of his return is not yet known but I think it's safe to assume that our hero has a flashback that will remind the audience that he promised Stacy that he would keep his daughter safe by staying away from her...
Peter and Gwen's High School graduation pics reveals that he seems to have done otherwise.... But if I were in Pete's shoes and had the chance to date/kiss Gwen I woulda stuck around too!!!
The site also has pics of Spidey's co-creator Stan Lee filming his cameo.
Andrew Garfield will return as Peter Parker and Emma Stone is gonna reprise her role as Gwen Stacy.
Shailene Woodley has won the role of Mary Jane Watson, the perennial red-headed love interest of Pater Parker in the Spidey comics. The role was previously played by Kirsten Dunst in director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy. Dane DeHaan ("Chronicle") has won the role of Harry Osborn Osborn of course is Peter Parker's best friend and eventual enemy who was played by James Franco previously.Jamie Foxx will be playing bad guy Electro. Paul Giamatti plays the villain, the Rhino Chris Cooper has been cast as Norman Osborn--who eventually becomes Spidey's number one foe--The Green Goblin--The character was played previously by Willem Dafoe Felicity Jones (Like Crazy), has an undisclosed role in the film. Former Office star B.J. Novak has an unspecified role in the film.
Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner are writing the script based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt.
Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce.
The new film is now in production to meet its May 2nd 2014 release date.

Box Office Update: Major Misstep
"Fast & Furious 6" stays at #1. While the Will Smith and Jaden Smith sci-fi film directed by M. Night Shyamalan called After Earth got beat by the magic infused caper flick Now You See Me.
Pamela McClintock of THR:
Marking a sizeable blow for one of the world's top stars, Will Smith's sci-fi adventure After Earth narrowly lost to magician heist pic Now You See Me in one of the most surprising box office battles in recent memory.
Sony's After Earth, directed by M. Night Shyamalan, took in $27 million in its North American debut, compared to $28.1 million for Now You See Me, from Summit Entertainment.
Universal's Fast & Furious 6 beat both films to stay at No. 1 in its second weekend, declining 65 percent to $34.5 million for a stellar domestic cume of $170.3 million. The action pic earned another $75 million overseas for a dazzling worldwide total of $480.6 million.
Heading into the weekend, After Earth was expected to easily outpace Now You See Me with a $35 million to $40 million opening, still one of the lowest numbers for a summer film starring Smith, but in line with Tom Cruise's sci-fi adventure Oblivion.
Hindered by dismal reviews and a B CinemaScore, After Earth vastly underperformed. The pic -- starring Smith opposite his son, Jaden -- will now need to make a strong showing overseas if it has any chance of making up its $130 million budget, plus a major marketing spend. Smith is beloved overseas, although sci-fi can be a tough sell in some major markets.
After Earth is a passion project for Smith, who came up with the idea for the story and helped tap Shyamalan to direct the film for Sony. The actor's character sits out much of the action in the film, with the younger Smith taking top billing. Numerous reviewers raised parallels between the film and Scientology.
"Would we have liked to do more? Certainly. But the film has always been a world play. It's going to to be opening in 60 countries It's a movie everyone worked very hard on and everyone is proud of the film. But its always ben a world play, and will open in 60 countries next weekend," said Sony worldwide president of distribution Rory Bruer.
One Sony insider added that the parallels being drawn between the storyline and Scientology couldn't be "further from the truth."
Now You See Me, designed to serve as counterprogramming to summer studio fare, wasn't expected to open much past $20 million. Directed by Louis Leterrier, the movie's ensemble cast includes Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher and Dave Franco.
The film, receiving an A- CinemaScore, cost just north of $75 million to produce, with much of the budget offset by foreign presales.
Elsewhere, Paramount's Star Trek Into Darkness and 20th Century Fox's 3D animated pic Epic tied for fourth place with $16.4 million each. The final order will be determined when official weekend numbers are released on Monday.
J.J. Abrams' Star Trek sequel ended the weekend with a domestic total of $181.2 million. Overseas, Into Darkness took in $37.6 million as it opened in China and South Korea for an international total of $147.4 million and worldwide cume of $328.6 million. The sci-fi adventure opened in China to a strong $25 million.
Epic, produced by Fox Animation Studios and Blue Sky, the team behind the Ice Age franchise and Rio, took in $28.8 million overseas from 56 countries for an international cume of $86.3 million and worldwide haul of $151.5 million.
Warner Bros. and Legendary's The Hangover Part III tumbled 62 percent in its second weekend to place No. 6, grossing $15.9 million for a disappointing domestic total of $88.1 million. The final title in Todd Phillips' R-rated comedy franchise received good news internationally, where it's expected to come in No. 1 for the weekend.
At the specialty box office, Zal Batmanglij's thriller The East opened to $75,628 from four theaters in New York and Los Angeles for a location average of $18,907. From Fox Searchlight, the film stars Brit Marling, Ellen Page, Alexander Skaarsgard and Patricia Clarkson.
CBS' The Kings of Summer likewise opened in four theaters, grossing $58,000 for a location average of $14,500. The film, from first-time director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, received an A- CinemaScore.
Indie drama Mud, from Roadside Attractions, stayed in the top 10 in it sixth weekend, grossing $1.2 million from 580 theaters for a total $16.9 million.

"Man Of Steel": Snyder On JL And MOS Sequel Talk
We are just shy of two weeks out from the release of Zack Snyder's "Man Of Steel"...
Chatting with Collider the director offered up his thoughts on a "Justice League" movie and a MOS sequel:
If they did offer you Justice League, and they offered you a Superman sequel, which is the one that gets your attention?
Look … completely hypothetically, I feel like you need … to get Superman a little further down the road, I think, before you can do a Justice League movie.
Considering that JL has no script--A 2015 release seems a bit of a Super-stretch
...So, I guess you’re saying that you could see yourself doing a Superman sequel and then perhaps…
I don’t know. All I’m saying is that you’ve got to get Superman further down the road
I agree with Snyder I would prefer if they did a few more solo movies with their heroes first--rather than slap a film together just to meet some date,...
We do know that MOS lays the groundwork for the eventual JL film--and to that end--Snyder revealed to Omelete a SPOILER of an example:
The Wayne Enterprises logo is on a satellite that Zod destroys.
They then asked him if he would like to pair off Batman and Superman in Man of Steel 2:
I don’t know. Everything is interesting at this point. And don’t forget that Lex is out there, doing who knows what…
We should what the future holds soon enough...
MOS stars Henry Cavill Amy Adams Michael Shannon Kevin Costner Diane Lane Antje Traue Christopher Meloni Harry Lennix Laurence Fishburne Russell Crowe and Ayelet Zurer. Emmy-winning actor Richard Schiff will play Dr. Hamilton. Cooper Timberline and Dylan Sprayberry both play young Clark Kent at various ages in the film. Jadin Gould is a young Lana Lang.

Little is known about the plot, but according to site, "it will be set some years after the conclusion of the influential first film." Attempts are underway to try to get Harrison Ford to reprise his role as
Rick Deckard.
