Ramsay Cuts Out On "Jane Got A Gun" @ Last Second

Director Lynne Ramsay failed to show up for the first day of production on the western drama "Jane Got a Gun" today in Santa Fe, New Mexico according to Screen Daily.

The story centers on a woman (Natalie Portman) who must defend her farm when her outlaw husband returns home after a gunfight at death's door. With his gang--led by John Bishop (Jude Law) coming to kill them, she seeks the help of an ex-lover (Joel Edgerton) to defend themselves. Rodrigo Santoro will play a character named Fitchum.

Producer Scott Steindorff says the incident is the result of a last minute attempt by Ramsay's lawyer to renegotiate terms. Steindorff and Portman have scrambled and seemingly already found a replacement director.

Exclusive Media, the film's international sales rep, issued this statement:

"As the international sales team for Jane Got A Gun we are disappointed by the departure of Lynne Ramsay but Scott Steindorff and the production team have our full support and we are fully confident the film schedule will be back on track within 24 hours as we understand a replacement director is already in hand."

The news follows a recent casting shift that happened when Michael Fassbender dropped out after having a reported falling-out with Ramsey.

Brian Duffield wrote the script which forced a bidding war at the Cannes Film Festival and also made last year's annual Black List of best unproduced screenplays.

Portman, Scott Steindorff, Terry Dougas and Chris Coen are producing.
