Harvey Weinstein Snags Rights To Paul Thomas Anderson Flick

Harvey Weinstein never ceases an opportunity to pick up a potential Oscar hit, so it should come as no surprise that he just snagged all distribution rights for Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming feature, which has Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman attached for roles.

Hoffman will play a man traumatized by World War II who returns home to a post-war America and forms a new belief system; Phoenix’s role is unknown.

Deadline Hollywood reports that none other than those two are locked just yet. Amy Adams, Madisen Beaty from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Laura Dern, and Lena Endre from The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo are the top contenders for the leading female role.

The film, formerly under the title of The Master, currently lacks a title; production begins on June 13.
