MGM has plans to make Barbershop 3, with Ice Cube negotiating a deal to reprise his role as Calvin Palmer, Jr. says Deadline.
A writers and director search is now underway.
The hope is that
Cedric the Entertainer and Queen Latifah to return as well. In the series Calvin inherited a South Side Chicago barbershop
from his father. He spends his normal days working in the shop,
interacting with co-workers and the surrounding community.
The first Barbershop opened
in 2002 and made $75 million from a $12 million dollar budget. The 2004 sequel
“Barbershop 2: Back in Business” made $65 million bucks from a $30 million budget.
Latifah headlined the Barbershop franchise spinoff, Beauty Shop in 2005.
Cube, Matt Alvarez, Bob Teitel and George Tillman Jr. will produce the comedy.
