Co-stars Matt Bomer and Joe Manganiello are chatting about Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper flick Magic Mike which is expected to wrap soon.
Manganiello told Celeb Buzz that the tone of the film is very much like that of a comedy - "It’s like Animal House and Hangover funny".
The story is inspired by Channing Tatum’s pre-Hollywood days as a male dancer--The biopic follows a newcomer to the world of exotic dancing (Alex Pettyfer) who is tempted by an older woman (Demi Moore) as well as bond with a mentor to the younger stripper--The titular Magic Mike (Tatum)
Matthew McConaughey was cast as Dallas, a former stripper who now owns the Xquisite club where Mike works. Cody Horn will play Pettyfer’s sister in the film who has a romance with Tatum’s character. Riley Keough plays Pettyfer's girlfriend. Betsy Brandt Mircea Monroe and professional wrestler Kevin Nash William Levy and Gabriel Iglesias co-star.
As to the full frontal question? Manganiello says "You are going to see…I mean…. No, no full frontal! But his name is Big Dick Richie for a reason".
His character is based on a man that Tatum knew named Big Dick Charlie, a guy whose costume was fireman themed.--Meaning Manganiello will sport "suspenders, hat, I get the axe going — the whole deal. Big sexy Kevin Nash has his Tarzan thing, I’ve got my fireman thing, Matt Bomer’s got a doctor thing going on, Adam Rodriguez does a Latino lover bit."
Meantime Bomer tells MTV News that one of his first lessons was how to wear a thong properly - "I had never worn a thong before, so the first time I tried it, I put it on wrong and my junk didn’t fit in it,” he said.
“I had to call a wardrobe person in and go, ‘Something’s wrong with my thong, you guys. I think we’re gonna have to figure this out,’ and they’re like, ‘Uh, yeah your legs are in the wrong holes.’ So, that was step one."
He adds that he learned a technique to tearaway clothes, and that Soderbergh "made him feel like he was shooting a documentary."
Reid Carolin pens the screenplay. The idea of Magic Mike came about when Soderbergh and Tatum were working together on the espionage drama Haywire.
Tatum, Nick Wechsler, Gregory Jacobs and Carolin produce the pic.
