Much Ado About Whedon

In the past day or so there's been lots of media chatter about Joss Whedon's newest project--a film adaptation of  Shakespeare's play Much Ado About Nothing....It started with a tease about rhe film over the weekend --and then by today we are learing much more about the film.

Joss tells EW that he was supposed to go on a month long vacation with his wife after he wrapped production  on the comic book superhero team up The Avengers... Instead she suggested he finally make the feature film version of the play that he’d been had in his head for years. And so he did — adapting the script, casting the film with Whedonverse pals like Nathan Fillion, Amy Acker Alexis Denisof and Sean Maher  He shot the self-funded, black-and-white indie in secret over 12 days at his Santa Monica, Calif. home with DP  Jay Hunter (Paper Heart, Dollhouse)

Talk about filmmaking on the fly!

The cast were “dedicated to the idea that this story bears retelling, that this dialogue is as fresh and intoxicating as any being written and that the joy of working on a passion project surrounded by dear friends, admired colleagues and an atmosphere of unabashed rapture far outweighs their hilariously miniature pay cheques. The text is to me a deconstruction of the idea of love, which is ironic, since the entire production is a love letter - to the text, to the cast, even to the house it’s shot in,” Whedon said.

This is why I love Joss--He made it happen and thanks to his already established friendships they helped out no fuss no muss--for something atypical no less...Can't Wait!

The comedic play follows two pairs of lovers, Benedick and Beatrice, and Claudio and Hero.

Star Sean Maher tells us more...
