A Long Shadow Cast

Director Sam Raimi has long proven he has a singular talent for bringing offbeat material to the big screen. I would even argue that the Spider-Man movies are indeed Raimi's most "mainstream" movies of his filmography...

Stax of IGN-Filmforce makes my point for me with the following item:

IGN scoop confirmed and clarified.

IGN Movies exclusively reported last week that Sam Raimi and screenwriter Siavash Farahani were involved with a project that would bring Street & Smith heroes such as The Shadow to the big-screen.

Now The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Raimi will indeed be bringing The Shadow back to theaters. Raimi and Josh Donen's Buckaroo Entertainment will produce The Shadow along with Michael Uslan's Comic Book Movies, Llc/Branded Entertainment banner. Farahani is indeed penning the screenplay.

"I've been a passionate Shadow fan ever since I was a kid and have long dreamed of bringing this character to the screen," Raimi advised THR.

The trade paper claims Raimi is not attached to direct at this time but IGN has been informed otherwise by sources.

THR also did not have any further comment on IGN's report that the film might also include appearances by other Street & Smith heroes so that remains only a rumor at this time.

What a great fit! The character has already been adapted for the big screen once before with a very mixed result. If anyone can do justice to this 75 year old mythology--Raimi can. I can't wait to see what he does with the material...
