The fact-based football drama, Invincible, remained undefeated for the second weekend in a row...
In his Weekend Report for Box Office Mojo Brandon Gray writes:
Invincible' topped Labor Day weekend [making another $15.2 million], but 'The Illusionist' [in 5th place with $8 million] and 'Little Miss Sunshine' [in 4th with $9.7 million] showed the most growth. Meanwhile, 'Crank' [#2 with $13 million] and 'The Wicker Man' [placing 3rd with $11.7 mill in ticket sales] opened at predictably modest levels.

Over at Variety, Ben Fritz looks back at lessons learned for Summer '06 in B.O.'s summer schism
U.S. loves the middle...
This summer, the magic was in the middle. Though only five films in 2006 passed $150 million vs. last summer's nine, the season was still 6% ahead of 2005. The '05 biggies racked up more than $1.9 billion; this summer's quintet grossed just under $1.5 billion. So how did this year's summer domestic box office -- $3.74 billion in all -- end up on such a high?...
Finally, Dave Karger of Entertainment Weekly must be fighting the temptation of doing an end zone victory dance (watch out for those new NFL rules against such a thing Dave!), as his prediction was right on target:
"Invincible" holds the line...
