It's official the suits at Fox closed a deal with Matthew Vaughn to direct “X-Men: First Class" and has set a date of June 3, 2011, for the film

Production will begin this summer, although a cast hasn't yet been announced. Bryan Singer who “X-Men” and its sequel “X2, had to turn down directing duties on FC is producing with Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg.

"I've been a fan of Matthew's since 'Layer Cake," said Singer. "He has a deft hand with multiple characters and storylines, and a great love of the X-Men universe. I feel the combination of this story and his vision will make for an exciting and original X-Men film."

Josh Schwartz and Jamie Moss wrote the script about the formative years of Xavier and Magneto, and the formation of the school and where their relationship took a wrong turn.

Super Secret

Is J.J. Abrams about to take a page from his own Cloverfield playbook?

HitFix reports that Abrams has directed an as yet unseen teaser trailer for the next low-budget action feature he's producing currently titled Super 8 which will be attached to copies of Iron Man 2.

The site doesn't know what's in the trailer, but it "is rumored to be a "Untitled Cloverfield Sequel".

It is not the project that Abrams and Steven Spielberg are teaming on...

This will not be leaked out beforehand... The trailers are electronically locked into the film's final reel canisters and can't be opened until Thursday afternoon.

Elan Mastai's 2008 Black List script follows two twenty-somethings who meet at a party and have instant chemistry. The two attempt to ignore their attraction and become platonic friends as she has a long-term boyfriend.

Smaller Ships

The Pirates of the Caribbean are going work with less treasure for the next pic in the series reports The Los Angeles Times.

The studio has decided to enforce a tighter constrained budget which producer "Jerry Bruckheimer is scrambling to meet" before filming begins on June 14th.

The first Pirates cost $140 million, the next 2 films bloated to a whopping $225 million and $300 million bucks. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will be cut back but still come in around $200 million.

To achieve this the film's shoot is expect to run around three months instead of the nearly five months it took to film the last one, while visual effects shots will be cut from around 2,000 to 1,300. Also expect more land-based filming.

Bruckheimer says tighter purse strings has caused him to "make painful decisions that cut into some very entertaining sequences."

All In The Family

Emily Deschanel (TV's Bones) will star in Anne Renton's indie film "Perfect Family," opposite Kathleen Turner says Bones Daily.

Turner plays a devout Catholic wife and mother who has been nominated for one of the church's top awards. She goes about trying to prove she has the "perfect" family, refusing to accept them for who they are.

Deschanel plays the daughter, a successful lesbian lawyer who is five months pregnant.

Jason Ritter plays her son who has just left his wife for an older woman, Michael McGrady plays her husband who is a recovering alcoholic Richard Chamberlain also stars.

Claire Riley and Paula Goldberg wrote the script. Cora Olson and Jennifer Dubin will produce the pic.

Filming kicks off later this month.

Horse Of Course!

Steven Spielberg has finally chosen his next pic to direct - the World War I epic War Horse reports The Wrap.

Studio spokesman Marvin Levy confirmed the news and the studio has already set an August 10th 2011 release date for the project based on Michael Morpurgo's bestselling 1982 novel.

Lee Hall (Billy Elliot, The Wind in the Willows) and Richard Curtis adapt the screenplay about the friendship between a boy and his horse, who become separated but continue to be intertwined as they try to survive the horrors of the war

Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Revel Guest are producing the pic.

The animal tale has also been adapted for the stage

The film will see theaters before Spielberg's "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn" which hits December 23rd 2011.

One of my favorite actors --Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a man on the move...

First he's in final negotiations to headline the thriller "Premium Rush" says Reuters.

Gordon-Levitt will play a New York bike messenger who picks up an envelope at Columbia University He soon finds himself being chased throughout the city by a dirty cop desperate to get his hands on it.

David Koepp ("Spider-Man," "Stir of Echoes") directs from a script he co-wrote with John Kamps.

He is also in talks to re-team with "Brick" director Rian Johnson on the time-travel thriller "Looper".

Set in a future when operatives are sent back to the present to assassinate criminals. Gordon-Levitt will play a man sent back to kill himself.

Back In Class

It seems that Matthew Vaughn is apparently once again in negotiations to helm X-Men: First Class says Deadline Hollywood.

Talks between the studio and Vaughn parties collapsed Thursday and several alternative directors were interviewed over the weekend--talks with Vaughn got back on track Monday morning, and further interviews have been cancelled.

Vaughn was set to direct X-Men: The Last Stand before dropping out of helming the pic.

Ashley Miller & Zack Stentz ("Thor") performed a late stage rewrite on the film while Bryan Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg will produce.

'Class' will go into production by late summer or early fall.

Rockwell & Aliens

"Iron Man 2" director Jon Favreau and co-star are set to re-team on the comic-book adaptation Cowboys and Aliens according to Heat Vision.

Based on the graphic novel by Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley, the story follows cowboys and Native Americans rising up against an alien invasion.

Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde and Harrison Ford are already cast.

Rockwell will play a bar owner named Doc who joins in the pursuit of the aliens, a role that was expanded after Rockwell expressed interest.

Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof wrote the script and Favreau is directing.

Shooting kicks off in June.

A sequel to the reboot of A Nightmare On Elm Street is already being planned and may be in 3-D no less

"We don't have a story yet, but this is the largest horror opening in the April-May corridor, and it just proves there's a lot left in the franchise," studio distribution president Dan Fellman told The Wrap.

Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy is contracted to come back but director Samuel Bayer might not

“Platinum Dunes is very open to the possibility of a Nightmare sequel,” producer Andrew Form tells Dread Central. “It would be amazing to work with Jackie and the cast again. Unfortunately, as far as we know right now, Sam wouldn't be back to direct the follow-up, but we’d love to come back to Elm Street because Freddy always has a story to tell. We definitely left ourselves open for a sequel so it would be a great privilege to get to do another Nightmare film."

Dread Central also spoke with one of the film's producers, Brad Fuller, who yaked about the 3-D thing

"I think that making the Nightmare sequel in 3-D is a bigger discussion than for right here in this room. We think that 3-D movies have to be designed and written as such. If Eric Heisserer and Wesley Strick came to us with a Nightmare sequel script that is for a 3-D movie, we'd be fools not to make it."

"Using 3-D for a Nightmare sequel has to work conceptually for us, though. I don't want to shoehorn the story just so we can use 3-D technology. I do really think this movie and the visual style would work well within a 3-D environment, though, so you never know," Fuller added.

All Lock-ed Up

RDJ.told MTV that Alfonso Cuaron's 3-D sci-fi-thriller "Gravity" is his next pic followed by Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes Sequel

Downey will shoot "Gravity" in London this Summer. The 'Holmes' sequel kicks off this Fall and while it will mostly shoot in London, Downey expects to "be abroad" saying "A bit of Paris, a bit of Switzerland by the end, if I'm not mistaken".

Could that mean that the filmmakers are using the famous ending of the short story The Adventure of the Final Problem in which both Holmes and Moriarty seemingly fall to their death at Reichenbach Falls (Holmes survives). Since its already been stated that Moriarty will be the film's villain.

Will Rachel McAdams'' Irene Adler character return? - "It's hard to say. Because Irene Adler only appeared in one of the stories of Doyle's reservoir of activities. But we'll find out quickly."

Ugh!! He's also not sure if they'll do SH2 in 3-D but adds "you're leaving a bunch of dough on the table if you don't shoot something in 3-D."

Bucky Big Time

The folks at over at CHUD say that plot within "The First Avenger: Captain America" movie is apparently being developed to leave the door open for the Winter Soldier to appear if there's a sequel.

The character is the modern day resurrected form of Cap's sidekick Bucky played by Sebastian Stan

Deadline is shedding light on why the the comedy sequels Anchorman 2 and Zoolander 2 were both scrapped by Paramount Pictures

It seems there's a budget gap of about $30 million bucks.

"Paramount insiders said that the studio is eager to make both sequels, but only if each costs around $40 million," says Deadline "But the Anchorman 2 filmmakers, for example, want something closer to $70 million to make their film"

The studio won't green light the flick for anything over $40 million due to the dismal international box-office ($5 million) for the first Anchorman film.

REC Creation

Directors Paco Plaza and Jaume Balagueró will split directing responsibilities for two further films in the Spanish-language REC film series reports Screen Daily.

The pair previously co-directed the first 2 films and while they will co-develop the next two, they will solo direct one each. Plaza directs and co-wrote the third film "[REC] Genesis" with Luis Berdejo which will explore the origins of the diabolic zombie mutant virus.

Balaguero will direct the fourth and final film "[REC] Apocalypse". The films will open Fall 2011 and Fall 2012 respectively.

The first film "[Rec] " opened in the Fall 2007 and was a major hit, leading to an American remake with Quarantine.

RIP Lynn Redgrave (1943-2010)

Actress Lynn Redgrave who was part of the Redgrave acting dynasty and earned two Oscar nominations, died Sunday night at her home in Manhattan; she was 67.

Though an official cause of death was not released, Redgrave had been treated for breast cancer in 2003. She is the sister of Vanessa Redgrave and Corin Redgrave, and aunt to the late Natasha Richardson and Nip/Tuck actress Joely Richardson,

She received her first Oscar nomination in 1967 for the British hit Georgy Girl, only her third film appearance, and went on to a long career in film, television and theater, earning three Tony nominations, an Emmy nomination, and a second Oscar nod in 1999 for Gods and Monsters.

She most recently appeared as a guest star last year on the TV series Ugly Betty and appeared in the comedy Confessions of a Shopaholic

Andrea Berloff (World Trade Center) will write "Straight Outta Compton", a musical biopic about the rise and fall of the trailblazzing 80's rap group N.W.A says The Hollywood Reporter.

Over twenty years ago the group members Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy-E, MC Ren and DJ Yella , released the "Straight Outta Compton" album which introduced gangsta rap to pop culture.

In 1990 Ice Cube left due to royalty disputes and later came further infighting between the remaining members. The group's members were frequently accused of promoting misogyny, homophobia, anti-Semitism and violence.

It wasn't until Eazy-E's death from AIDS related causes that the ex-members began to reconcile.

Cube and Matt Alvarez are producing along with Eazy-E's widow Tomica Woods- Wright

No director is yet attached.

Emerald Lens

The LA Times reports that "Hairspray" and "Bedtime Stories" director Adam Shankman has passed on doing Bob: The Musical, to which he's been attached to for over a year, in the hopes of doing the "The Wizard of Oz" prequel Oz: The Great and Powerful.

Shankman's compettion "American Beauty" and "Revolutionary Road" director Sam Mendes who has previously been linked to this origin tale and has RDJ hovering to star as the Wizard before he came to the land of Oz.

Mendes was set to direct Bond 23 later this year, but with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's financial woes putting that project on indefinite hold his chances of doing the Oz gig look much better

Both are very different directors who'll no doubt have quite different styles on what's being described as a 3-D "broad adventure story". Shankman's earlier work has skewed generally quite young, but has recently made comment that he wants to do projects with a more adult sensibility.

Shankman's departure from "Bob" also puts that project's future uncertain

Katic plays a journalist who runs into a lover (Mark Polish) from her past and they re-ignite their passion. Their love soon sends them travelling throughout France as they experience bliss, joy, confusion and guilt.

Michael Polish directs the pic inspired by Claude Lelouch's Un homme et une femme "A Man and a Woman" and other French New Wave cinema.

The Polish Brothers will also produce the pic with Sean O'Grady.

Adam Cozad is writing a film adaptation of Mark Greaney's recent thriller novel “The Gray Man”says Risky Biz Blog.

Greaney's novel follows a former CIA spy-turned-assassin codenamed 'The Gray Man' who finds himself on the run through Europe as mysterious forces try to erase him. He also tries to save the lives of the daughters who don't know he exists.

Forgiving Drive

Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn will shoot the neo-Western "Only God Forgives" this Summer in Asia reports The Playlist.

As previously reported, the story follows a Thai police lieutenant who settles his rivalry with a gangster in Thai boxing matches. Refn will write, produce and direct the pic.

Refn revealed in February he had chosen the Ryan Gosling-led crime-noir Drive as his next pic and dropped out of two high-profile films to do it- Jekyll, the new spin on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novella "The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" starring Keanu Reeves'" and The Dying Of The Light written by Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver) with Harrison Ford.

"Drive", about a stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver, was supposed to shoot before 'God' which would've filmed later in the year. Now it seems 'God' will come first as Gosling is currently doing a Steve Carell comedy.

No Zoo For You!

Just days ago the suits at Paramount Pictures axed Anchorman 2, now a tweet from Ben Stiller indicates the developing Zoolander 2 may have met its maker as well

Justin Theroux, ("Tropic Thunder" and "Iron Man 2") was working on the script with Stiller while Jonah Hill was up to play the villain in this sequel set ten years after the 2001 original.

Now it sounds like the studio has passed on the film.

Freddy Krueger is raking in cash at the box office again.

A remake of the slasher flick "A Nightmare on Elm Street" led the weekend with a $32.2 million debut. The movie features Jackie Earle Haley as Krueger, a psycho killer who stalks and slays victims in their dreams.

Fright films typically drop steeply in their second weekends, since hardcore horror fans rush out to see them in the first few days. But the remake already is headed toward a solid profit after an opening weekend that roughly matched its modest production budget of just over $30 million.

The weekend's other new wide release, Brendan Fraser's family comedy "Furry Vengeance," bombed with just $6.5 million

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura believes the G.I. Joe Sequel could begin filming as soon as next spring for a summer 2012 release updating MTV

Zombieland scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick ak are currently writing the script. The producer said he's seen some of it which he liked, but as with all scripts it will require additional work.

Will all of the characters be back for the sequel?

"We haven't defined it yet. We're gonna keep that under wraps for the moment. They all did great and we liked them all," di Bonaventura says . "It's hard to manage as many characters as we tried. It would make life a little easier to have a few less. It'd be a hard decision to lose anybody, because they all did great."

He added that G.I. Joe 2 will keep the international scope of the original film.

Sylvester Stallone has been developing " Rambo V: The Savage Hunt" for several months based on the book"Hunter" by James Byron Huggins which he acquired a decade ago.

The sequel is now a no go

Sly tells Empire that "I think Rambo's pretty well done. I don't think there will be any more. I'm about 99% sure... We're already working on an [Expendables] sequel."

The 'Hunt' premise might have proven a bit controversial in the end--centered around a military project to develop savage super-soldiers and Rambo being called in to track and capture one who has escaped.

Expanding Numbers

Kevin Durand (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Callan McAuliffe ("Packed to the Rafters") have both joined the cast of I Am Number Four says the gang over at FilmDrunk.

Based upon James Frey and Jobie Hughes's upcoming novel the story follows nine aliens who flee to Earth disguised as teenagers.

The title character, (Alex Pettyfer), soon learns the enemy alien race that caused them to abandon their home planet are still hunting them.

Durand plays The Commander who is hunting the aliens, McAuliffe plays Number Four's best friend.

Sharlto Copley is playing his adult guardian and Teresa Palmer will be one of the other aliens. Dianna Agron play a girl dating a high school jock who falls for Number Four and becomes his confidant.

D.J. Caruso calls the shots from Alfred Gough and Miles Millar's script

Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg will produce the pic. Filming kicks off next month in Pittsburgh for release next February.

Ditching Class

Wow! that was fast...

Entertainment Weekly no sooner posted the news that Matthew Vaughn had been in talks to direct X-Men: First Class --now he may already be off the list.

Heat Vision reports that both Vaughn and Rupert Sanders ("The Low Dweller") have already passed on the project. Vaughn also turned down directing “X-Men: The Last Stand” in 2005 and left Thor during the prep process

Others on the Class short list include Timur Bekmambetov, Louis Leterrier, David Slade, Daniel Espinosa and Carl Rinsch.

Espinosa’s "Snabba Cash" recently got picked up for a remake starring Zac Efron and the director has several major projects being offered to him

But Espinosa seems to be at the top of the list having met with Bryan Singer who is producing 'First Class', about the comic book pic

Singer was initially going to direct 'First Class' but had to drop out due to scheduling commitments on "Jack The Giant Killer"

It is driven largely to sell expensive projection equipment and add a $5 to $7.50 surcharge on already expensive movie tickets"..

Breaking The Ice

Now that he is officially directing "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" Bill Condon has posted a note on the official Facebook page for Summit Entertainment's Twilight

The note reads in full:

I just want to say hello to all of you and let you know that I'm stoked to be getting underway on the adventure of making "Breaking Dawn". As you've probably heard, I've been given a very warm welcome by Stephenie and Team Summit - who are super-focused, as you know, on getting these movies right.

I'm pretty busy bringing myself up to speed on what you already know by heart: I've read "Breaking Dawn" twice, rewatched Catherine's and Chris's movies 2-3 times each, have all four CDs playing in my car, and have Catherine's notebook, Mark Cotta Vaz's companion books, and even Volume 1 of the graphic novel here on my desk - a corner of my office is starting to look like Hot Topic. I realize that this barely qualifies me for "newborn" status in the universe you've been living inside for a few years now, but a guy's gotta start somewhere.

Like many of you, I've always been slightly obsessed with vampires, dating back to the prime-time series Dark Shadows which I followed avidly as a kid. But that alone hadn't been enough to get me interested in making a vampire movie, even though my early screenwriting and directing efforts grew out of a great love for horror movies and thrillers. Since making "Gods and Monsters" thirteen years ago, however, I've been yearning for a return to a story with Gothic overtones.

The wonderful world that Stephenie has created has obviously struck a chord with you, and I don't think it's difficult to see why. For me, her characters are simultaneously timeless, yet very modern. Rooted in a beautiful, real landscape with a great sense of place, Bella, Edward, Jacob, and the rest of the Forks/La Push menagerie, experience emotions that are primal, and universal: desire, despair, jealousy - and it all comes to fruition in "Breaking Dawn". This is a final chapter in the best sense; not just wide in scope and scale, but emotionally charged and intense throughout.

I'm a huge admirer of the already-iconic Kristen, Robert and Taylor, and wanted to be the one to work with them as they face the challenges of bringing your beloved characters to the end of their journeys. Really, what could be more fun than that?"

The film follows Paul (Ryan Reynolds) a U.S. contractor working in Iraq. After an attack by a group of Iraqis he wakes to find he is buried alive inside a coffin. With only a lighter and a cell phone it's a race against time to escape this claustrophobic death trap.

The film is directed by Rodrigo Cortés from Chris Sparling's script.

Bloody Disgusting recently reported that the studio has scheduled some additional photography that will "add a bit of story to the 'exterior' sequences".

Even so...the pic still gets a limited release in theaters on September 24, 2010 with a wide release set for October 8, 2010.

Time Will Tell

Although the real time TV drama 24 recently called it day on its weekly grind...

Star Kiefer Sutherland told IGN UK last month that Billy Ray (Shattered Glass Breach) completed the film script weeks ago and the two-hour film will most likely cover a 24-hour time period.

Speculation is high that the story could take place in potentially several countries and allows Jack Bauer the freedom to fly around Europe.

The plot could also go back to the basics of the first season with a more personal crisis to deal with rather than the more grand plan terrorist plots.

The final season really really lagged in the middle but has picked up steam as it nears the finish line in a few weeks....

As I have said before -I have very mixed feelings on this I just don't know if the real time format will translate all that well-in a 2 hour format
