RDJ Behind The Curtain?

Production Weekly says that Robert Downey Jr. may play the Wizard in the in the prequel to the "The Wizard of Oz" called "Oz, the Great and Powerful."

Oscar winner Sam Mendes -- who was to helm Bond 23 until it was delayed --is said to be the front runner to direct the project...ahead of Adam Shankman.

The Mitchell Kapner--scripted Oz, a.k.a. Brick is reportedly a prequel that culls pieces from the original L. Frank Baum books

Joe Roth will produce Oz

"As conceived in Kapner's script, the wizard is a charlatan who's part of a traveling circus but goes on a similar odyssey as Dorothy when he mysteriously lands in Oz," says The Los Angeles Times.

Mendes and Shankman may be free but RDJ is pretty well booked with Poe Iron Man 3 The Avengers Sherlock Holmes 2 on his radar -- all of which would keep the actor committed to other projects well into 2011.
