She's One "Batty" Chick"

Another recent casting rumor can be put to rest as "all but official"...

Maggie Gyllenhaal [pictured] is in final talks to star opposite Christian Bale in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight," the next installment in the revitalized Batman franchise.

She'll play the role of Rachel Dawes, played by Katie Holmes in "Batman Begins." Holmes dropped out of the project earlier in the year.

Nolan is set to begin lensing in the late spring or early summer. Pic is eying a summer 2008 release...

Gyllenhaal, a new mother, was most recently in theaters with "Stranger than Fiction" and "World Trade Center."

Maggie (sister to actor Jake Gyllenhaal) makes the perfect choice to replace Katie Holmes in the Dawes role. I think Holmes' work in Batman Begins was rather flat...taking away from an otherwise great film Gyllenhaal brings solid acting skills to the table...

She's great, even in films, where she's not taking center stage-Stranger Than Fiction, 40 Days and 40 Nights, and Donnie Darko, playing opposite her bro...A good [casting] call.
