Bats And A Beltway Boy

It's the ultimate superhero team-up...

Senator Patrick Leahy (pictured) has a part in the next Batman movie.

"I don't wear tights," the Vermont politician told The Associated Press.

Leahy's scene for The Dark Knight is "in the can" and involves Batman (Christian Bale), The Joker, (Heath Ledger), and Alfred Pennyworth (Michael Caine)

The longtime Batman fan would reveal little about his role other than he is called the "distinguished gentleman."

"It's a pretty tense scene," said Leahy, Democratic chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. "It's going to be a very interesting one."

Leahy's such a fan of Bob Kane's character, that he's even done voice-over work on Batman cartoons, written the preface for a Batman book and had small roles in the last two Batman features.

He said he will donate his earnings from the film to the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier Vt, where the senator got his first library card.

I guess even busy politico types can embrace their inner geek every now and then...

If Arizona Republican Senator/Presidenttial Candidate John McCain can cameo in Wedding Crashers...Anything's possible.

The Dark Knight is scheduled for release on July 18th of 2008.
