Ashley As "Helen"

Actress Ashley Judd (pictured) has always been a favorite of mine...With solid material to work from, Judd has done some amazing things on screen...Here's news on her latest role:

Tatiana Siegel and Michael Fleming of Variety:

...Judd has signed on to topline drama "Helen" for Egoli Tossell Films and Insight Film Studios.

Script by Sandra Nettelbeck ("Mostly Martha"), who will also direct, centers on a music professor and mother who suffers from a deep, debilitating depression. Her family tries to help her, but no one can relate to her pain other than a young female student who knows depression all too well.

Shooting is scheduled to begin Oct. 2 in Vancouver.

Judd, who most recently appeared in the Lionsgate thriller "Bug" will next be seen in The Weinstein Co. ensemble drama "Crossing Over," set for release in December...

Judd has carved out quite a career playing strong female characters...for both supporting roles, like those for Heat and A Time to Kill , and in the lead for Kiss the Girls, Double Jeopardy, and High Crimes...She also turned heads playing screen icon Marilyn Monroe in the TV biopic Norma Jean & Marilyn...
