3-D Shuffle And Happen-Stance

The latest game of Chicken between two competing films in same genre--releasing summer 2009--is over. Monsters vs. Aliens blinks when faced with the prospect of going head to head with James Cameron's eagerly anticipated Avatar

Pamela McClontock of Variety:

DreamWorks Animation is moving up the release of 3-D toon "Monsters vs. Aliens" by one week to May 15, 2009, avoiding a direct showdown with James Cameron's 3-D pic "Avatar."

"Monsters vs. Aliens," an irreverent, modern-day update of the classic 1950s pic, is being directed by Conrad Vernon ("Shrek 2") and Rob Letterman ("Shark Tale").

Comedic actioner is the first DreamWorks Animation film to be produced in stereoscopic 3-D.

Both "Monsters" and sci-fi thriller "Avatar," from 20th Century Fox, had claimed the opening date of May 22, 2009...

Given how much buzz already surrounds Cameron's flick, I can undertand why DreamWorks Animation decided to yield here. Smart move on their part.

Also: Peter Gilstrap of Variety shares some cool casting news for a flim that's set to start shooting in Philly next month...

John Leguizamo [pictured] has been cast in 20th Century Fox thriller "The Happening," directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

Pic stars Mark Wahlberg as a man who takes his family on the run when a natural disaster threatens to end the world. Leguizamo plays his best friend.

.... Fox has scheduled a worldwide release date of Friday, June 13, 2008...

Leguizamo's a multi-ta;ented guy and is one of my favorite performers...He brings a lot to the table. Shyamalan is assembling a solid cast. I just hope all of this leads to a film that doesn't suck a'la The Village and Lady in the Water
