The Invisible Man Remake Not Gone

In the pipeline since 2007 at Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment, writer/director David Goyer says his spin on the H.G. Wells classic. "The Invisible Man," is making headway but will go for a broader appeal than originally intended.

Talking with  Hero Complex he says

“It’s a period film but it’s period like [Robert Downey Jr 's] Sherlock Holmes,. It’s period but it’s a reinvention of the character in the sort of way that Stephen Sommers exploded ‘The Mummy into a much bigger kind of mythology. That’s kind of what we’ve done with ‘The Invisible Man '”

Goyer was set to write the script What's the status of the pic?

“It’s still alive. We did some pre-vis tests and things like that that they were very happy with. Now we’re going through the casting process. if they get the right lead, they’ll make it.”

At last report this version was being conceived as a sequel to Wells' original tale, centering on a British nephew of the original Invisible Man. Once he discovers his uncle's formula for achieving invisibility, he is recruited by British intelligence agency MI5 during WWII.

Several versions of the story have hit the screen both big and small through the decades But I repeat what I said 4 years ago--Fingers Firmly Crossed--I hope the update turns out better than either Hollow Man from 2000, or Memoirs of an Invisible Man (1992) did. Even though both films had talented folks calling the shots as well, both were major stink bombs.

As long as we steer clear of those 2 pics Goyer's take has my vote
