The script from Chris Boal centers on two Viking brothers who are banished to the previously-unexplored North America and decide to attempt the harrowing journey back to their Swedish homeland.
The film is said to be in vien of epics like Braveheart and Gladiator
Skarsgard has a bright big screen future with roles in the upcoming "Straw Dogs" remake, Lars von Trier's "Melancholia" and Peter Berg's action tentpole "Battleship".
No director has yet beem announced.
Charles Roven and Richard Suckle will co-produce.
