Robert Schwentke has suddenly emerged as the leading candidate to call action on the flick reports The L.A. Times.
Ryan Reynolds is attached to star a young cop murdered in the line of duty who agrees to enlist in "God's police force" for a chance to catch his killer. The action follows a regular day in the life of him and his partner, a gunslinger who himself has been dead for centuries.
Both Schwentke and McG were competing to helm the project until the rom-com This Means War, , which McG is committed to, suddenly got going and put him out of the running.
The plan is to shoot the project next Summer but the studio wants a director to begin pre-production on the film almost immediately. Schwentke would direct from a script by Clash of the Titans 2010 screenwriters Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi,
Schwentke is also inked to the new film adaptation of "The Osterman Weekend" and 'Shadow Divers'
