THR reports that even as the official studio word is that there's no impact on the film,
studio insiders claim the sudden death of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman means a
crucial scene in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" will have to be altered .
Hoffman had finished all his work on "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" and most of
his work on the second part, but he had several days and "one major
emotional scene" left to film as Plutarch Heavensbee, .
A Lionsgate executive says: "We're all extraordinarily sad, but as it
relates to production, it’s going to have no impact. Obviously, we're
going to have a couple of work-around issues but the movie will be
creatively whole. His performances in both [remaining] movies will be up
to the best of his craft. We feel it will be a good tribute to him."
The executive wouldn't elaborate on which scene it was that remains
to be shot, though the source says their plans "don't seem very
complicated".
Mockingjay Part 1 opens November 21st 2014 while The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 hits November 20th 2015.
