Lego Movie 2 Or "Ninjago"? What's Next?

Thanks to the runaway success of "The Lego Movie," it is no surprise that Warner Bros wants a  sequel...

That said THR says that the has to decide in the next few weeks whether to go forward with not just "The Lego Movie 2," but also a stand-alone film adaptation of the other popular LEGO toy line called "Ninjago".

Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman were charged to write the script for the Ninjago ,movie and began work last June.

Set in a fictional world inspired by Chinese and Japanese myths, the story follows the red ninja of fire. The film boasts a new take that "diverges" from the hit Cartoon Network animated series which the Hageman's also wrote.

Warners only has rights to one "LEGO Movie" sequel and a spin-off film at present, but the deadline to green light a Ninjago film, already extended from this past November, is fast approaching. If they don't go through with a Ninjago film, Denmark-based LEGO may not want to continue its deal with Warners for further films beyond the "LEGO Movie" sequel.

If they do go through with it, it would strengthen the relationship between Warners and LEGO. Making a movie based on the more "boy-friendly" Ninjago brand is a bigger risk than a  LEGO Movie sequel which would likely follow Ninjago .

If Ninjago does go forward, Charlie Bean will direct.

Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are producing the pic.
