Some serious cash was spent recently--All in an effort to own a piece of film history... An original Superman costume [pictured] worn by Christopher Reeve in the 1978 film classic has sold for $115,000 in US dollars during a recent Hollywood memorabilia auction.
The sale, put together by the firm Profiles In History, sold more than $2 million dollars worth of film and TV treasures, including scripts and posters.
The Superman outfit sold for more than twice the amount it was expected to go for.
Other items sold included H.R. Giger's creature suit from the 1979 film Alien, which sold for $126,500. Marilyn Monroe's gown from There's No Business Like Show Business and Val Kilmer's Batman costume from Batman Forever netted $92,000 and $63,250 respectively. Elsewhere on the block, the golden headpiece of the "Staff Of Ra" from Raiders Of The Lost Ark took $69,000.
