Casting on director Julie Taymor's big-screen adaptation of William Shakespeare's The Tempest is looking very nice according to The Hollywood Reporter
Helen Mirren, Jeremy Irons Russell Brand, Alfred Molina, Djimon Hounsou, Ben Whishaw and Felicity Jones are all set -while Geoffrey Rush is in negotiations to join the project which begins shooting next month in Hawaii.
The '09 version of the story will take liberties- the main character of Prospero, an exiled duke-turned-sorcerer, will become a woman named Prospera (Mirren)
The story deals with Prospera and her magical island whose inhabitants include her daughter Miranda (Jones), deformed slave Caliban (Hounsou), and airy spirit Ariel (Wishaw). The shipwrecked crew full of Prospera's enemies include the jester Trinculo (Brand), drunken butler Stephano (Molina), royal adviser Gonzalo (Rush), and the King of Naples Alonso (Irons).
Shakespeare's works are a hit or miss in Hollywood....But this should be great given the talent assembled...I would watch this for sure.
