Craig Brewer ("Black Snake Moan") has been hired to direct the "Footloose" remake says Variety.Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer starred in the 1984 original, which told the story of a rebellious outsider who moves to a new town where music and dancing are banned and proceeds to shake everything up.
Brewer reworked Susannah Grant's script.
Kenny Ortega ("High School Musical") was previously attached to direct but dropped out late last year sometime after Zac Efron bailed on the lead.

"Gossip Girl" guy Chace Crawford (pictured) stepped into the lead role but has now left the project due to scheduling conflicts.
The question is Why is it so hard to make this update?
Recasting the lead will begin shortly with filming to kick off in the Summer.
