Michelle Williams wants one of the three lead roles in the film adaptation of The Emperor's Children says The Wrap.

Based upon Claire Messud's 2006 best-selling novel-The story is set in 2001 and follows three East Coast Ivy League grads approaching their thirties with trepidation. Soon an idealistic college dropout makes some decisions that will change the lives of the trio forever-using the September 11 attacks as a backdrop

Williams will likely play the role of Midwestern television documentary producer Danielle Minkoff, though reps would not confirm.

The film originally was to be directed by Ron Howard several years ago. He's now serving as producer with Brian Grazer.

Noah Baumback-now is both writer and director.

Eric Bana, Richard Gere and Keira Knightley will co-star
