Daldry Does Oskar's Tale

Stephen Daldry ("The Hours," "The Reader") will direct a film adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer's book Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close says The Hollywood Reporter.

The story follows multi-talented nine-year-old Oskar Schell whose father died in the September 11 attacks . Given a mysterious key by his father before he died, Oskar now wanders New York City in search of the lock it will open.

Eric Roth ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button") is adapting the script.

Scott Rudin will produce the pic.

Daldry was mentioned as a potential director of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" but this news effectively nixes that possibility .
