Singer revealed to EW that he is "co-writing the story and I’m it. I'm negotiating to direct. We're in the process. We're trying to figure it out, schedules. My desire would be to direct it."
When asked if there will be some sort of tease for the film attached to "X-Men: Days of Future Past" he says: "I'm still deciding that. Something that happens in this movie causes what's going to happen in that movie."
The new film allows him to touch upon something not covered in the film series- mutation throughout history: "It will also address historical mutant-cy, meaning the deep past, mutant origins and things like that. It's something that's always intrigued me when we think about our Gods and our history and miracles and powers."
X2: X-Men United" and "Superman Returns" screenwriters Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris as well as Simon Kinberg are writing the script.
The younger actors introduced in "X-Men: First Class" James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto) Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), and Nicholas Hoult (Beast). Lucas Till (Alex “Havoc” Summers), etc. are contracted for three films and are locked in to return.
Because the film is a direct sequel to "X-Men: Days of Future Past" it will focus strictly on the younger cast as they take on the comic's greatest villain Apocalypse.
The film will hit theaters on May 27, 2016 opposite Alice in Wonderland 2
