Spider-Man Films: Will Woodley Return? & Mega Marvel Chatter

Although she filmed scenes as Mary Jane Watson for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, actress Shailene Woodley's performance as the character ended up being cut from the film.

Woodley spent three days on the set but the decision was made to cut the material in order to "streamline the story."

She tells Heat Vision that she isn't quite sure if she will be back to reprise the role for "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" due to her commitments to the Divergent film franchise. Asked if she will appear in the next film, she says:

"I don't know anything, but seeing as how they picked up the next two Divergent films, I don't know how I'd keep my sanity with two big action films in one year... But, anything can happen, so..."

Meantime Spider-Man film producer Avi Arad was recently asked by Total Film about the possibility of a  a Mega-Marvel movie being made. The idea would be to bring together "The Avengers," with Sony Pictures Spider-Man and Fox's "X-Men"

Arad says

"I for one don’t see the value for us in it. I think we’re doing such a good job with the Spider-Man Universe. Spider-Man is arguably the number one character in the world. He shouldn’t make a cameo."

He does leave the door open just a crack though, saying it would be possible if there were: "a natural alliance for some reason... I cannot talk for Sony."

Given that the Spidey film series will soon grow to include other members of the extended Spidey family fellow producer Matt Tolmach adds that making 'their own mini-universe is more than enough at this point:

"The practical side of it is, look, how many movies have we just talked about? It's all we can do to build that universe. We're not going beyond that."

Amazing 2 is now in post-production to meet its May 2nd 2014 release date.
