McGregor plays both a holy man and a demon on a journey through the desert. An encounter with a family struggling to survive in this harsh environment forces the holy man to confront his own fate.
Tye Sheridan, Ciaran Hinds and Ayelet Zurer also star.
Rodrigo Garcia's directing the film using his own screenplay.
Julie Lynn, Wicks Walker and Bonnie Curtis will produce.
Production is due to begin this month in the Southern California desert.
