"Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and "Iron Man 3" director Shane Black has been hired to call action on "The Destroyer" reports Deadline.
The film will be based upon author Warren Murphy's Destroyer Series. The story follows New Jersey cop Remo Williams, a man sentenced to death and then resurrected following a botched execution. He now works for the enforcement arm of the clandestine U.S. government agency CURE. Teaming with an Asian assassin, together they clean up and eliminate those who oppose America's interests. The books blend suspense, Eastern mysticism, and darkly comic capers.
Jim Uhls ("Fight Club") and James Mullaney wrote the adapted script. Mullaney co-authored and became the sole writer of books until the series’ end in 2008. Fred Ward starred as the title character in Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins in a 1985 movie.
Charles Roven, Steven Chasman, and Andy Horwitz will produce. Michael De Luca and Lauren Abrahams will executive produce.
In a statement Roven says: "Shane has been a fan of the original Destroyer book series since its inception and he has an incredible vision for this film. [We] couldn't be more fortunate to be working with this talented director on this material. The narrative Jim and James have created is incredibly rich and while it's a story rooted in adventure, it is also very much character driven.”
