Rebel Yellow

Robert Zemeckis is in negotiations to direct a 3-D performance/motion capture remake of The Beatles animated cult classic Yellow Submarine according to Variety.

The 1968 original followed a soldier named Old Fred who meets up with the Beatles and travels in a yellow submersible to Pepperland. Among the group's encounters are the Blue Meanies, music-hating creatures.

Disney is making efforts to acquire the rights to the music in the film like songs "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," "When I'm Sixty-Four" and "With a Little Help From My Friends."

The studio also plans to turn the production into a Broadway musical and a Cirque du Soleil stage show.

The studio hopes to have the film ready in time for the Summer Olympic Games in 2012

Zemeckis loves motion capture doesn't he?...Beowulf, The Polar Express and his upcoming take on A Christmas Carol all utilize the process in some fashion...Still...How can you go wrong with The Beatles?
