Akira Remake: Dead Again!!

Warner Bros.is shutting down its "Akiraremake again due to casting and budget issues says Heat Vision.

The production offices in Vancouver are shut down with crew members being told to stop working and go home.

Director Jaume Collet-Serra and producers Andrew Lazar and Jennifer Davisson Killoran will work for the next two weeks to iron out the script concerns. Steve Kloves signed onto do a rewrite of the Hawk Ostby, Mark Fergus and Gary Whitta script. Should they fail to make it work the whole project could be scrapped once and for all. This film had struggled in development hell for years with numerous attempts started and stopped along the way.

This latest setback marks its fourth so called 'death', each time though it has come back.  For that to happen this time its already scaled back $90 million budget will have to be cut down even further - say the $60-70 million mark.

The new film would have shifted the action from Neo-Tokyo to New Manhattan but still followed Kaneda's (Garrett Hedlund) attempts to save Tetsuo from a medical experiment that threatens to unleash destructive powers.

Will the remake survive yet again?

Stay Tuned...
