Bridesmaids 2 Without Wiig

A "Bridesmaids," sequel is ready to move ahead without star and co-writer Kristen Wiig says THR.

Written by Wiig & Annie Mumolo the original pic had Wiig playing Annie Walker, who is chosen as the maid of honor for her best friend's wedding but gets in a competition with one of the bridesmaids.

"We aren't working on that," Wiig told the trade. "Annie and I aren't planning a sequel. We are writing something else."

It is not clear if producer Judd Apatow would return to work on the project without Wiig and Mumolo.

"
We are over the moon with the success of Bridesmaids, and if we do a sequel we want to get it right," a Universal Pictures suit said. "We are talking to filmmakers now about concepts, and if the right one emerges, we'll move forward."

Studio chief Ronald Meyer allegedly took Wiig out for dinner hoping to change her mind but the actress stood firm.

Bridesmaids also starred Melissa McCarthy , Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper.

Might breakout star McCarthy be put front and center?
