Refn Brings Barbarella Back ...For TV

"Drive" and "Bronson" helmer Nicolas Winding Refn will direct the pilot and executive produce a TV series based on the classic French comics series "Barbarella" says Variety.
Martha De Laurentiis is also serving as executive producer, but no writer has been hired yet.

Created by Jean-Claude Forest the character is best remembered in Roger Vadim's high camp cult classic 1968 film adaptation starring Jane Fonda which the late Italian film producer and entrepreneur Dino De Laurentiis  produced.

Plans to bring the character back to the big screen had been long discussed by director Robert Rodriguez but they never got beyond chatter.

In an official statement, Refn says "I look forward to bringing this unique character to life for a new generation of fans as I believe she is one of the ultimate counter-cultural characters."
