David Lyons has joined the cast of the Nicholas Sparks' book adaptation "Safe Haven" says EW.
The story follows a young North Carolina woman (Julianne Hough) who is determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships. As she begins to fall in love, she struggles with a dark secret that still haunts and terrifies her.
Lyons will play the ex-husband of Hough's. His brutal treatment of her leads her to flee to a small North Carolina town.
Josh Duhamel is to play a widowed store owner and father of two.
Lasse Hallstrom directs from an adapted script by Dana Stevens and Leslie Bohem
Sparks, Ryan Kavanaugh, Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen will produce the film
