The story has Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) and his friends returning to Swallow Falls when it is discovered that sentient food beasts have overrun the island.
Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn, both of which had worked on the first Cloudy will direct from a script by Horrible Bosses writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.
Anna Faris and Andy Samberg are expected to return to voice their characters from the first film.
Kirk Bodyfelt will produce the film
Phil Lord and Chris Miller who directed the original, will be executive producing.
The sequel hits theaters December 20th, 2013
