Rob Zombie will write, direct and produce the hockey drama "Broad Street Bullies" reports Deadline.
The film will chart the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team which went from a cellar-dwelling expansion team into one that had as many victories and penalty minutes during the 1970s.
The physical play of the team was legendary, enough that when the Soviet Union's supposedly invincible Red Army team played them in 1976, the Soviet team was roughed up so badly they left the ice in the first period (though they were eventually forced to finish the game). The Flyers ended up winning the game 4-1.
Known for horror films, if Zombie's versions of Halloween and Halloween II are any indication--The players/characters will curse a lot and there will be lots of blood on the ice
Zombie has scored the rights to the team’s story and has the full support of the organization and will produce with Andy Gould, Les Borsai and Jeremy Platt.
An excellent HBO documentary about that era in team history recounts the same period
