"Empire State" Goes Direct To Disc

One of the best sites for disc news and product reviews Blu-ray.com says that the heist thriller "Empire State" is skipping a theatrical run and going directly to Blu-ray and DVD on September 3rd 2013. The film was due to hit theaters on June 10th, 2013.

The film--previously titled "The Sentry Keep"-- is based on the true story of a 1982 NYC armored car company robbery thought at the time to be the largest cash heist in U.S. history. The story follows two childhood friends from Astoria, N.Y., who plan the crime.

Liam Hemsworth will play one of the friends while Dwayne Johnson plays the NYPD detective out to bring the duo to justice. Emma Roberts will be playing a waitress who has some romantic interest in Hemsworth’s character.

Adam Mazer wrote the script from which Dito Montiel ("Fighting") called action.

David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are producing the film.

This decision marks another blow for Montiel after his cop drama "The Son of No One" starring Channing Tatum, Al Pacino and Juliette Binoche. endured a disastrous screening at the Sundance Film Festival The film went on to gross only a few thousand dollars in theaters. I watched "Son" on cable recently all I will say to you is that I share the view of the folks at Sundance.

This is kind of surprising with The Rock's name attached to it. Usually his action movies are such a huge draw.
