Say Hello To Another Director For "Scarface" Redux

Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larrain ("No") is in talks to direct the latest version of Scarface says The Wrap

Frequent Harry Potter film series director David Yates was circling the pic for a time.

In this incarnation, a Mexican immigrant named Tony rises in the criminal underworld as he strives for the American Dream. This version has a "mythic origin story" quality which explores "where Tony's physical and emotional wounds come from and how they shaped him as a man".

The new pic trades the Chicago bootlegging used in the 1932 film and the Miami drug-dealing used in Brian de Palma's 1983 version for LA

Universal is said to be very happy with the current script from "Donnie Brasco" and "Quiz Show" scribe Paul Attanasio.

Marc Shmuger and Martin Bregman are producing the film and hope to cast an "authentic Latino who is bilingual and bicultural."
