A film remake of the classic Lerner And Lowe musical "My Fair Lady" is headed our way according to Variety.
Keira Knightley is in talks to star as Eliza Doolittle-a role made famous in the 1964 film by the late great Audrey Hepburn (pictured).
The film will retain the Lerner & Loewe musical score and 1912 setting, with production set to take place on location in the original London settings such as Tottenham Court Road and Covent Garden.
Further material from George Bernard Shaw's dramatic play "Pygmalion," which served as the basis for the musical, will be added to new screenplay to "dramatize as believably as possible for present-day audiences the emotional highs and lows of Eliza Doolittle as she undergoes the ultimate makeover, transforming under the tutelage of Professor Henry Higgins from a Cockney flower girl to a lady."
The Broadway musical was first staged in 1956 featuring Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison who played Henry Higgins in the '64 film as well.
As I have said before, the musical genre is not really my cup of tea, but there's little denying that Knightley (and whomever is cast as the male lead opposite her) will have very big shoes to fill indeed.
