The Puppet Master

Josh Hartnett (pictured) is talking to MTV News. about his latest flick...

"I'm going to Romania to shoot this film called Bunraku," Hartnett said.

"All the cast isn't set yet, but it's going to be a lot of really interesting actors, in this weird kind of papier-mâché world."

Bunraku refers to a type of Japanese puppetry which has been around for over 400 years. The movie will utilize a puppet / Origami style as puppeteers will control 4-foot-tall puppets. CGI will be used to mesh the bizarre effects with live action footage

As for Hartnett's role-he plays a character called “The Drifter” who happens upon this strange world. The character is a wandering nomad who is describes as ” [having] something to prove,” leading to some strange fight sequences...

Say what?

Hartnett admits that the premise is a bit of a head scratcher:

"It's odd; it's out there. I've been trying to do as much artistic fare as I can and things that are compelling to watch as well."

Hartnett’s a solid talent, to be sure--but I'd have to see some footage before I'm gonna go along for the ride.

Variety has more on this film.

I'd hate to to have to be the folks in the marketing department that have to sell this...
