To capitalize on that there's a full roster of new flicks being released ready to greet the masses:
Ryan Reynolds and Abigail Breslin (pictured) share a bedtime story in the romantic comedy Definitely, Maybe (reviews); Going for the younger dating crowd is Step Up 2 The Streets (reviews) with Briana Evigan and Robert Hoffman (pictured) getting ready to strut their stuff...
Director Doug Liman and star Hayden Christensen hope young males will go for the actioner Jumper (reviews); While The Spiderwick Chronicles (reviews) is targeting young kids who have read the books on which the film is based...
Critics seem to like "Maybe" and Spiderwick" a lot...While Jumper (despite cool F/X) and Step Up 2 seem to be running and dancing in place...
That said, Liman has a track record of doing well no matter what critics say and the original Step Up defied the odds 2 years ago and was actually a pretty decent flick. Will history repeat itself?
Read the the article Diverse films for holiday weekend in Variety for analysis.
Next Week: Meet Charlie Bartlett; Don't forget Be Kind Rewind; And it's all a matter of perspective for the thriller Vantage Point.
