Jumping The Gun

Producer and studio suit Avi Lerner announced over the weekend that Brett Ratner was going to direct Conan...

That news has now been been rebuked by Ratner himself who told The Los Angeles Times:

"I am not doing 'Conan' now. This is totally premature. For now, 'Conan' is only a development deal."

He then added "I have a deal [for] doing Beverly Hills Cop first, no matter what. Avi shouldn't be telling you or anyone else in the press what I'm doing."

Lerner acknowledges that despite issuing the press release announcing Ratner's involvement, the deal wasn't a done deal.

"We still have a few obstacles. Brett is only committed if we agree on a budget, on how to do the special effects and exactly where we'd shoot the film."

Lerner's a doof...He risks damaging a deal he obviously wants to happen--and his reputation...

Lerner also stated he offered Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger--who starred in the 1982 film and a few sequels-- $1 million for a one-day cameo in the update but so far no word either way.

Is Lerner gonna mess that up?
