The comedy trio was seen in shorts and features in the 30's and it's hopef to fast-track Peter and Bobby Farrelly's most recent screenplay which provides for a family-friendly origin story of sorts for Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curly Howard.
The new $45 million contemporary-day feature consists of four 20-minute shorts, the same as the slapstick pioneers' most common format in the 1920s and '30s. The first establishes the trio as seven-year-old castoffs who terrorize the nun-run orphanage that takes them in.
The Farrellys are attached to direct and co-produce the film.
A PG or PG-13 rating is expected and hoped for.
The release date of November 20th 2009 has already been set, though no-one is yet attached to star.
A nation-wide search will be conducted to find someone to play Curly.
I have been a Stooge fan for most of my life--and despite the comedic instincts of the Farrelly bros--the project has a tough road to hoe nonetheless. The Stooges are irreplaceable...
