Writers Wanted

Two high profile adaptations are looking for adaptors...

A few weeks ago news broke that Steven Spielberg and Will Smith were going to work together on a remake of the popular Korean film "Oldboy.

Smith tells the Film School Rejects that rather than an American version of the 2003 film, the project will be an adaptation of the original manga saga by Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi.

"We're looking at that right now. Not the film though, it's the original source material. There's the original comics of 'Oldboy' that they made the first film from. And that's what we're working from, not an adaptation of the film".

Though similar, there are key differences between the graphic novel and the 2003 film with its darker elements like eating live octopi and brother-sister incest.

The search for a writer is on for the project.

Meanwhile...

Blizzard Entertainment's Frank Pearce announced last week in New York that writers are also being sought for the long-gestating "Warcraft" flick

From MTV:

"Legendary Pictures is currently trying to assign some names to write the screenplay and find someone to direct it, so it's still really early in production. They want to make sure they get the right talent for those different parts, especially the screenwriting because that's the foundation for the movie"

Is the film going to be live-action or CG animated like the games?

"[That] has come up in discussions but it's not something we've really considered because it takes so long to generate just the brief amount of footage that we create for the game. It would definitely be really cool. There's no question about that, it's just that the quantity of work that it would take is more than we're willing to take on at this point."
