Follow Suit

The estate of Jack Kirby, co-creator of Marvel comic book heroes like Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Captain America, Avengers Ant-Man Spider-Man Ghost Rider, X-Men, Fantastic Four and Daredevil-- through 4 of his children-- have served 45 notices of termination to regain the rights to several characters terminating the copyright to publishers Marvel and Disney as well as film studios that made movies and TV shows based on characters he created or co-created....

Bleeding Cool via Deadline Hollywood Daily says the estate has hired Toberoff & Associates to litigate on their behalf. the same team that helped Superman co- creator Jerry Siegel's family regain his share of copyrights to the characters and their use in comics and other media from DC Comics and Warner Bros..

If Kirby's estate wins--the rights reversion does not happen until 2014.

Should that happen Marvel and Disney would still own the trademarks and negotiation will likely take place well before the deadline for Marvel to be able to continue publishing comics based on Kirby's fabulous work...

Stay Tuned...
