The latest bits of film news that didn't have a chance to get to this past week....


-Yes! Billy Crystal 'Itchy' to Host Oscars Again Please Come Baaaaaack!!

-"Despicable Me" and "Hop" creators Illumination Entertainment will make their first full live-action feature reports Deadline.

-Danny Trejo, M.C. Gainey Teaming Up for 'Haunted High'

-Brian De Palma is set to direct the thriller "The Key Man" reports Deadline. Joby Harold ("Awake")'s script sees a single father who's targeted by U.S. government agents because his body contains answers to important national secrets

-"Babel" and "Biutiful" director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu will direct the western "The Revenant" says Variety.


-Mike the Pike Productions is moving ahead with plans for a film adaptation of the werewolf tale "The Skin Trade" reports Business Wire. The story centers upon a female detective on the trail of a serial killer linked to an underground werewolf clan ruling the remains of an economically decaying city.

-Isaiah Washington is set to play John Allen Williams in Alexandre Moors' thriller "Blue Caprice" which deals with the sniper attacks that terrorized the Washington, DC, area in October 2002 says The Live Feed. Williams went a shooting spree with a young accomplice that took the lives of at least ten randomly selected people. The pair were caught when the blue Chevy Caprice car they used was recognised. Williams was executed in 2009. Production begins late next month in New York City.

-Keira Knightley is said to be in very early discussions to star in "Rosaline" reports Vulture. Knightley is both the studio and producer Shawn Levy’s first choice to play the lead role. The film is an adaptation of Rebecca Serle's upcoming first novel "When You Were Mine" which re-tells Shakespeare’s great tragedy "Romeo and Juliet" from the perspective of the normally unseen Rosaline, the celibate niece of Capulet and Romeo's first love. When Romeo sneaks into a Capulet gathering to find her towards the play's start, he spots Juliet instead and instantly falls in love with her.

-Author Ray Bradbury, Mike Medavoy Adapting 'Dandelion Wine' Into Feature Film Bradbury turns 91 on Monday....

-Helen Mirren's 'Deadlocked' Drama Moves Forward

-Michael Fassbenderis wanted for the lead role in the long gestating suspense thriller "Prisoners" reports Coming Soon.The story follows Keller Dove, a carpenter and father of two whose daughter goes missing. He then abducts and tortures the main suspect in order to try and find the real kidnapper. Denis Villeneuve now helms the film, replacing director Antoine Fuqua.

-Abigail Breslin ("Little Miss Sunshine") has scored the lead role in Stan Brooks' indie drama "The Class Project" reports Variety. The true story follows two Canadian sisters who, tired of their mother's alcoholism and abusive boyfriends, plot to kill her. The crime wasn't discovered until over a year later.

-Tony Scott is in talks to potentially direct a remake of the 1969 Sam Peckinpah-directed classic western "The Wild Bunch" says Deadline.The original pic starred William Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan and Warren Oates as an aging group of outlaws out for one last score on the Texas-Mexico border in 1913 as the Old West vanishes around them.

-Renny Harlin and "Burn Notice" producer/writer Ben Watkins are teaming to pen a sequel to Harlin's action/comedy "The Long Kiss Goodnight". says Film School Rejects

-Noah Oppenheim has been hired to write the script for the reboot of the classic 1983 film "War Games" says Deadline.

-Will Smith is reportedly meeting with director Shawn Levy in the next few weeks to discuss potentially doing the "Fantastic Voyage" remake says The Hollywood Reporter.

-DreamWorks Pictures has acquired feature film rights to Karen Marie Moning's bestselling young adult fantasy novel series "Fever" says Variety.

-DreamWorks Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures are teaming for an adaptation of Leif Enger's 2002 novel "Peace Like A River" says The Hollywood Reporter. Tate Taylor ("The Help") is in early talks to direct.

-Jack O’Connell, Alexandra Roach, George Mackay, Richard Griffiths and Frances De La Tour have all joined the cast of "Private Peaceful" says Screen Daily.

-Franck Khalfoun, who helmed the 2007 Wes Bentley and Rachel Nichols car park thriller "P2", will direct a remake of William Lustig's 1980 low-budget slasher "Maniac" reports Bloody Disgusting.

-Episodic TV director Brian Kirk, who will make his feature directorial debut on "Thor 2', is in negotiations to helm the rodeo film "Paper Wings" at Sony Pictures reports Showblitz.

-"Hunger" director Steve McQueen is teaming with Brad Pitt and Chiwetel Ejiofor for an adaptation of Solomon Northup's 1853 autobiography "Twelve Years a Slave" says The Hollywood Reporter.
