Movie Industy News Bits You Need To Know


-Keanu Reeves is in negotiations to helm "Man of Tai Chi" reports Reuters. He wrote the film and if it goes ahead he will both star as the villain and make his directorial debut on the Mandarin-and-English-language project. Tiger Chen, a member of the kung fu team in "The Matrix", will also star in the film which features some "serious fighting scenes". Further plot details are hushed for now.

-French stars Daniel Auteuil and Guillaume Canet are set team for the first time in the Olympic equestrian drama "Jappeloup" says Screen Daily Canet will play French jockey Pierre Durand, who nursed a small black horse back from injury to take the gold medal at Seoul in 1988. Auteuil will play his father. Christian Duguay will direct.

-Bruce Beresford ("Driving Miss Dairy," "Breaker Morant") will helm the biopic "The White Mouse" next year says Variety.

-Walden Media has acquired film rights to Jeff Brown's children's book series "Flat Stanley" about a two-dimensional person stuck in a 3-D world says Deadline.


-Jason Momoa, star of the new "Conan the Barbarian" remake says that not only is he committed to a sequel but he's already written it.

-"Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston is going to write and potentially direct an adaptation of David Wiltse‘s murder-mystery novel "Home Again" reports Hollywood.com.The story follows an FBI agent who suddenly quits the department and takes his son and his wife back to his hometown of Cascade, Nebraska, to rekindle family values. Then a murder happens and the father and son must come together to save each other. Pruduction would take place next year. Cranston last stepped behind the camera for 1999's "Last Chance"

-io9 has seemingly obtained a casting call notice for "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" The document goes into detail about the new characters that appear in the sequel. Since it was posted though, a source at Paramount states that these casting notes aren't really an accurate reflection of what's in the movie's actual script.

-"Bee Movie" co-director Simon Smith is set to direct the untitled "Madagascar" film spin-off starring the penguin characters says Heat Vision.

-Universal Pictures will remake the indie supernatural thriller "Phasma ex Machina" reports Deadline. The original followed a man who, after the death of his parents, builds a machine to attempt communication with the spirit world. Nathan Parker writes the script with commercials director Gary Shore set to direct the film.

-Disney has won film rights to Michael J. Tougias and Casey Sherman's 2009 novel "The Finest Hours" reports Deadline. Meanwhile the Mouse House has recently locked down some prime release dates for their films, even if we don't know what some of those films are reports Deadline. First up is one of its future but unspecified Marvel movies for May 16th 2014 and another for June 27th 2014. They've also set a May 30th 2014 release for an unspecified Pixar film, an October 4th 2013 release for a Henry Selick untitled 3D film, and an August 15th 2012 release for "The Odd Life of Timothy Green"

-Vera Farmiga ("Up in the Air") and Mark Strong ("Sherlock Holmes") have joined Nae Caranfil's Russia-set period drama "Closer to the Moon" reports Deadline.

-Constantin Film is planning to revive Karl May's "Winnetou" series of westerns with Oscar-winning "Dances with Wolves" witer Michael Blake to pen the script adaptation says The Hollywood Reporter.
